Isabel Douglass

An accordionist dedicated to creating a personalized musical vocabulary through combining Romani folkloric techniques with experimental song forms.

Originally from San Francisco, Isabel has performed with ensembles performing a wide variety of genres, including Argentinian tango, klezmer, cumbia, indi-pop, rembetika, and Romanian.

Since moving to Copenhagen, she has been performing with groups such as Isabeau, Tigertræning, and Simon Hansen.

I studied in the rhythmic department of RAMA in an innovative graduate program called GLOMAS. We focused on developing methods for musicians from culturally diverse backgrounds to collaborate artistically and through business ventures. The emphasis is both on the musical outcome and the process by which it is arrived by. My particular line of research during this education was in the Romani music of Bucharest, Romania.
